Ayia Napa v Ibiza for a Weekend Get Away

IBIZA.jpg

Ayia Napa and Ibiza have been THE PARTY destinations for over 20 years and still going strong. Initially what set these two destinations apart was music genre; one being more popular with the UK garage and grime scene and the other with the house and techno lovers. Today, both have gone mainstream. So how do you choose which one for your stag or hen do or even just a cheeky lil get away?

We’ve made a comparison between the two that should help you choose the best one for you.

Activities

Ayia Napa: While its merits as a party haven are undisputable, Ayia Napa is also blessed by a huge and varied portfolio of activities for stag and hen groups on a mission to make their holiday as epic as possible. Aside from all the many nightlife activities available, there are also a wealth of day time activities ranging from adventurous quad biking, relaxing yacht rentals and brewery tours. Ayia Napa also offers stag and hen groups a huge selection of awesome water sports from scuba diving or tuna fishing to under the sea walking and more. 5/5

Ibiza: Ibiza is a great spot for a number of different activities for Stag and Hen groups. The stunning natural landscapes are perfect for hiking or cycling trips and there are plenty of fun water based activities to choose from such as banana boating or paragliding. 4/5

Nightlife

Ayia Napa: Ayia Napa is the ultimate party town of Cyprus, all summer long the beaches and the streets are alive with revellers having a wild time on holiday. There are even boat parties for those who want to take the party to sea. With a couple of top clubs which host internationally renowned DJ’s the music scene in Ayia Napa is also second to none and there are plenty of clubs to suit every taste. Also the prices in Ayia Napa are not sky high so a stag or hen holiday in the paradise party resort is easily affordable for all budgets. 4/5

Ibiza: Famous as one of Europe’s favourite party destinations, the Spanish island of Ibiza is hard to beat when it comes to nightlife. Anything goes in this land of hedonism and debauchery, however the calibre of partying comes with a price and the island has become known for its more expensive and upmarket party scene. Top nightclubs can cost as much as 60-80 euro to get in for one night so you’ll need a hefty budget to come here for your stag or hen, however there are parties that can be found for cheaper and after all for a one off night out, maybe it’s worth spending the pennies! 4/5

Accommodation

Ayia Napa: Ayia Napa is an absolute dream come true for stag and hen groups looking for amazing value-for-money or budget accommodation. The resort town is packed full of cheap as chips hotel apartments and rooms for people who will be on the beach all day and up dancing all night. There are a couple of nice hotels near the sea for those who want more creature comforts and villas for rent are a great option for big groups wanting to stay together. Most of the accommodation choices here are simple and unpretentious – it’s harder to find something really fancy in Napa. 3/5

Ibiza: Ibiza has a wide range of accommodation options ranging from the crappy little hotel where roaches roam the halls and you’d rather not use the towels, to super high-end luxury villas with views of the sea. It really depends on your budget and what you want your living arrangements to be like. We don’t recommend staying in the centre of town as the loud music coming from clubs and bars will drive you crazy if you are having a night in. 3/5

Beaches

Ayia Napa: Having recently been voted as having the best beaches in Europe, Ayia Napa is an absolute guarantee if you are looking for stunning white sands and turquoise waters. Nissi Beach is the destinations most popular party beach, with a raucous beach bar blasting out sick tunes all afternoon. There are also some stunning quieter beaches around the peninsula and for those who like scuba diving (insert link) or snorkelling, Cape Greko is the ideal place for jumping into the crystal clear water from the rocks. 5/5

Ibiza: Ibiza is a whole island so there are numerous beaches to choose from on any given day. The island has wild, untouched beaches for a more peaceful day out, and there are also more lively beaches with bars, clubs and water sports. Although the islands busiest beaches don’t have the same turquoise waters as Ayia Napa, there are still plenty of beaches to choose from and discover. 4/5

Prices

Ayia Napa: Although getting to Cyprus can be a little pricier than other European destinations, once you have arrived on the island for your stag or hen do, you’ll find the prices to be very budget friendly. Beers shouldn’t cost more than a couple of euro and many or the bars and clubs are free to actually get into and food can be as cheap as chips if you find the right places. Of course there are also options to suit those with bigger budgets but don’t forget, Ayia Napa is only a small town so it’s easy to get around without needing to dish out for public transport. 3/5

Ibiza: There are probably some parts of Ibiza that are nice and cheap but they aren’t very close to the main party areas and stag and hen groups might find themselves out of the way and having to pay for cabs. Clubbing in Ibiza is notoriously expensive and the more upmarket the place becomes, the more trendy and extortionately priced bars and restaurants that pop up. This isn’t a place for those on a tight budget. 2/5

Total Score: Ayia Napa 20/25 v Ibiza 17/25
